Evacuation Time in Texas, Part 10

Wally called, sobbing with relief, to say he thinks he can make it now to San Antonio.

"The roads have cleared and we're traveling seventy-five miles an hour. We're gonna make it. My car was one of the ones that hadn't got gas from the government yet. These local people—oh my God!—these local people came out and said, 'Can we give you some gas?' Kathy, we're gonna make it. I'll call you when I get there."

Still haven't heard directly from Becky.

Katharine,
So glad to hear some good news about your family in Texas. Thanks for sharing this story with us. Although I moved away from Austin last year, I still feel like a Texan (I left my heart in Austin, Texas.) So I'm pulling for everyone to be safe.

I had to share my family's story. Writing is the way I process life events to figure out their meaning, something that I think you, Angela, as a poet, understand very well.

Texas never leaves the person, you know. I left the state in 1982, and I'm still a Texan.
