The New Jersey Supreme Court has ruled that the state's legislature now must choose between allowing civil unions or same-sex marriage, and the blog Blue Jersey has put together a wonderful ad that clearly shows why civil unions are a separate-but-inequal alternative to marriage that will create a class of second-class citizens. You can help make a difference by donating to the ad campaign; the bloggers themselves put up the funds for production costs. Read a Jersey newspaper feature about the ad and its creators here.

Thanks for the link. I bet not alot of people know about some of the inequalities inherent in civil unions.
I've gotta like the ad, it's so reminiscent of those other "two people talking" ads.
;-)
Another aspect of the ad that I especially like is a subliminal one: The straight woman casually touches the lesbian in a friendly way, which sends the message that GLBT people are not to be feared, that they're humans just like straight people, that they won't try to seduce someone of the same sex just because the straight person's standing there. That may seem like something everyone should already know, but a lot of homophobes—and straight people who don't know any GLBT people—don't know it ... and they need to.
