It feels very odd being back at work today after spending Thursday through Sunday in a holiday haze. The kids are still home from school—and will be until after New Year's Day—so I still have a strong urge to goof off. It's so hard to get the brain cranked up when everyone's so relaxed.

Maybe we should share a pair of earplugs. It was darn hard focusing yesterday with the sounds of vacation mirth coming from downstairs!
Is Ed off work, too? The Consort is, which is good b/c I don't get interrupted for silly things, but it's bad b/c I'm the only adult in Work Mode.
I tried earplugs; they don't help much. Ed's woodshop hearing protection does, but after a while, my head gets claustrophobic and so I have to take off the "ear muffs."
I wish it were the case that Ed was off work. He will give a potential client an estimate today for a kitchen-refinishing project, so there's potential professional work coming down the pike for him, for the first time in several months. But meanwhile, he's still way underemployed, working 4 a.m.–1 a.m. at the evil Walmart for starvation wages.
