Well, folks, I think I've searched all corners of the country to dig up insurance companies offering affordable health insurance, and I can't find anything. (See earlier posts in this saga here and here.) I'm stressed and worn out from my hunt. If any miracle drops down from the sky, I'll let you know.

Hi Katherine. Just stopping by to say hello...and wish you luck.
Thanks, Mickey. You've cheered me up.
It boggles the mind that your family can be stuck in such a situation in an 'advanced' country. Here's hoping for coverage 'ex machina'.
I like the term coverage ex machina, KCB. Thanks for coining it. I think I'll put it on my birthday wish list.
Katharine, that isn't easy. I've lived the no-insurance life, and it's not easy. What a feeling of relief to land a job with health benefits... and a feeling of servitude, too afraid to ever leave the security again.
Any chance of getting a high-deductible policy to keep the prior-condition caveats at bay?
KZ, we found one whose premiums we could afford. The only catch is that even buying our meds at Costco, which gives steep discounts (but they're nowhere near as low as our current med copays), we'd still be paying more than we are each month. It's like paying another mortgage on top of the one we're already paying, which is pretty much what we're doing with our current policy and so can't afford for its premiums to increase at all. New York State is one of the worst states in the country for insurance prices—and I'm talking health, life, and auto.
