Why is he selling his property? He shouldn't have. If he kept that property and sometimes visitied, people were going to remember that homosexuals are also human beings and they are exactly like heterosexuals. I think if we run away from the problem, then nothing is ever solved. So, instead of selling the property he should have kept it and visited it often to send a message to those people.
I don't see it as running away, KL. Though I can't speak for Daniel, I know from personal experience that sometimes a situation is so harmful to one's emotional health that it's best to be out of that place. I had to leave the state of Texas behind to heal enough from growing up in a toxic family to be able to take action to make life better for myself and others.
Because Daniel handled things the way he did, the folks in that little town know that the entire nation is aware of their bigotry. That has to make a least some of them think. The pen really is mightier than the sword.
I welcome discussion of—and even disagreement with—my posts. But if you feel the need to call me or others rude or crude names, your comments will be deleted. I won't tolerate racism, sexism, ageism, looksism, weightism, gay-bashing, religion-bashing, culture-bashing, or any other prejudice here. Also, if your only reason for commenting is to link back to your site and not to discuss a post, your comment will be deleted.
