I'm not Catholic, so the election of conservative German cardinal Joséph Ratzinger has no effect on how my church operates. But I'm human, so the prospect of Pope Benedict XVI has me worried.
The head of the Catholic Church has always had huge influence on world affairs through the attitudes he personally represents. Benedict will, I believe, have a negative influence on the world. He stands for unloving religion, religion that doesn't take real life into account. He stands for heading back to a more repressive, unforgiving past. And forgiving is what God is all about.
With Benedict at the helm, heaven help GLBT people, women, priests, nuns, Catholics who wanted a visionary leader, compassion, open hearts and open discussion of issues . . .

Someone was telling me that a report has been published where it has been revealed that this pope circulated a secret letter saying that all the investigations done by the people under catholic church for the paedophile cases should be kept secret.
This is a big time obstruction against justice.
i hope you will also point out the reasons for your worry. have you read any of his books? do you know his thoughts? do you personally know him? i think its unfair for someone to criticize the Pope without first knowing him. otherwise you are just propagating rumors and lies.
Well, Anonymous, I haven't read any of Benedict's books, and it's highly unlikely that I would have a chance to know him personally. What I do is rely on news reports, from various sources. Go here for just one of many that point out Benedict's penchant for living in the Catholic Church's past. History has shown that living in the past, for any entity, whether religious or secular, is unhealthy and often dangerous. My own church (the Presbyterian Church, USA) still needs to quit living in the past in at least one area—how it treats GLBT people.
P.S. Go here for an analytical piece about Benedict's stance—conservative all the way.
I can't confirm KL's report in media reports, so I can't comment on it.
