Stephen Pearcy may never exhibit in the Guggenheim or the Louvre, but he sure does know how to make a point. The California lawyer created his eloquent work, T'anks to Mr. Bush," in reponse to a call for lawyers to submit paintings to be displayed at the California State Department of Justice (story here).The state's Republican Party is insisting that Pearcy's painting should be removed. The painting, says a state party spokeswoman, is "blatantly offensive to people who think that America does not belong in the toilet."
The delicious part is that Pearcy himself is a Republican.
California Attorney General Bill Lockyer is refusing to remove the painting.

It would be nice to see if Mr.Stephen Pearcy would like to have his art in his own office. Yech..it really awful!
What is "yech,...awful" to a person, might be appreciated by another. We all have a right to express our opinion as long as there isn't any physical harm inflicted on another being while expressing that opinion.
In this case, the only physical harm that might be inflicted by the painting is if it fell onto the foot of a First Amendment saboteur.
Yeah -- I agree. He sure makes his point. I think art has to make a point about something, even if the point is only an aethetic one. I'm not sure about the aesthetics of toilets, but I love this painting.

Actually I'm not a Republican, nor was I when the painting was exhibited, but thanks for the article!
Sorry, Mr. Pearcy. I relied on information in the MSNBC.com article about your painting.
I think that Mr Pearcy does not have any respect for the country he lives in or the citizens of the United States.
