The Darwin Awards

The things I learn on the job ...

Just found out about the Darwin Awards in the course of verifying their existence while copyediting a book on paleontology:

Where Evolution Hits the Pavement

We salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who remove themselves from it. Of necessity, this honor is generally bestowed posthumously.

  1. Katharine,

You really never ran across the Darwin Awards before? The annual awards announcement is eagerly awaited in cube farms everywhere and has been for over a decade. People who work in Dilbert World need occasional confirmation that their own lives are at least a little less bleak than somebody else's. You really have to get out more ;-)

  2. Yabbut I've been freelancing for over a decade, so I must have missed the awards' inception. :-)
